Aftercare Routine
Healing a piercing can take several months, and some areas may need up to a year to heal completely.
The first jewelry change takes place at Obsidian, at your check-up visit, around a month after healing begins. At that point the size of the jewelry can be adjusted and replaced with a shorter bar if needed.
Recommended care:
Always wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning your piercing. Never touch a healing piercing with unwashed hands: this is essential to help prevent infection.
For daily care, apply saline solution to a sterile gauze pad, morning and evening, for 15 days.
After that, reduce it to once a day until the piercing has fully healed. Use gauze pads rather than cotton wool, which can leave fibers around the jewelry.
Tongue: use an alcohol-free mouthwash three times a day during the first week, especially after meals. Take an anti-inflammatory if needed for 4 days.
What to avoid:
- Avoid sleeping on your piercing, and be careful with knocks, snagging and rubbing from clothing.
- No swimming pools, especially during the first month of healing.
- Don't apply cosmetics to the freshly pierced area.
- Don't remove the jewelry yourself before the check-up visit.
- Don't play with your jewelry, and only touch it when you clean it.
- It's best to avoid antiseptics such as Biseptine or Betadine: they can disrupt natural healing by destroying healthy cells and good bacteria. Betadine can also damage jewelry, causing staining or reactions with certain metals.
- For the navel: avoid high-waisted trousers
- For nipples: avoid synthetic fabrics and choose cotton underwear
